New Zealand’s First Hyperscale Cloud to Launch this August

TEAM IM deploys Oracle Alloy for the country’s first sovereign hyperscale Cloud

4 Min Read

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, 23 July 2024 TEAM IM, a leading New Zealand information management services provider, has deployed Oracle Alloy in its data centres and launched TEAM Cloud, New Zealand’s first sovereign hyperscale cloud. From 1 August 2024, the TEAM Cloud platform will offer more than 100 Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services to help New Zealand organisations meet relevant regulatory and data sovereignty requirements.

TEAM IM owns and operates its data centres locally, so New Zealand organisations will now have access to a sovereign hyperscale cloud with all their data contained and protected within New Zealand. This provides organisations with enhanced data residency and digital sovereignty, boosting resilience with extensive recovery capabilities. Delivered in record time, only nine months since partnering with Oracle, TEAM Cloud will run independently across two TEAM IM data centres in the North Island, which are Toitū net carbonzero certified.

“Many companies have promised to deliver New Zealand’s first hyperscale cloud, and we’re incredibly proud to be the first to deliver on this promise. This hyperscale cloud will create possibilities for further innovation, such as sovereign AI, which will help strengthen New Zealand’s digital economy, enhancing productivity and financial returns,” says Ian Rogers, chief executive officer, TEAM IM.

“Being New Zealand owned and operated, our hyperscale cloud provides true data sovereignty, without any data leaving New Zealand shores. We can also offer a complete range of cyber resilient and low latency IaaS and PaaS services to New Zealand organisations. In addition, our AI tools will reside in New Zealand, which drastically decreases the chances of precious intellectual property or confidential data ending up in a knowledge base overseas. Thank you to Oracle for collaborating with us on this initiative and working so hard to quickly bring it to the market.

“As a local business, our purpose is to help New Zealand organisations optimise operations and maximise productivity by providing them with hyperscale cloud services within New Zealand borders.

"Our way to market is through the well-established New Zealand partner network who customers trust, respect and understand their IT needs. We are actively pursuing partnerships with IT service companies and consulting firms, small and large, to promote their services and capabilities delivered from TEAM Cloud’s Sovereign Hyper-scale solution. We understand that many organisations pursue a multi-cloud strategy, and we are dedicated to providing a viable and cost effective alternative or as an addition to multi-cloud approaches."

TEAM Cloud will benefit from OCI’s high performance, security, powerful data analytics, and distributed cloud capabilities.

"As AI transforms global business and policy, nations must strengthen digital sovereignty to protect critical data," says John Eastman, managing director of Oracle New Zealand. "With Oracle Alloy, TEAM IM customers can quickly be onboarded, get access to latest 100+ cloud services, and are enabled to leverage leading cloud technologies including GenAI capabilities securely, supporting the transformation and modernisation of New Zealand's organisations and digital sovereignty."

New Zealand agency REACH Media is one of the first local businesses signed on to use TEAM Cloud. “REACH Media has a long association with Oracle Database and is an existing OCI customer, so we are looking forward to being an early adoptee of the first hyperscale cloud tenancy in New Zealand with TEAM Cloud,” said Aaron Glass, chief operating officer, REACH Media.

“As a development house for the Out-of-Home advertising industry in New Zealand, we're soon to embark on a new project that requires enterprise-grade security, low latency ideally sovereignty with all data in New Zealand, so the TEAM Cloud solution can't arrive soon enough for REACH. In fact, we will be moving all of our applications to it as soon as we can."
