TEAM Cloud New Zealand is excited to endorse the government’s new strategic framework for artificial intelligence (AI) outlined in the recent Cabinet paper from the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE). This visionary approach highlights the immense potential of AI to enhance both public and private sectors, aligning seamlessly with TEAM Cloud’s mission to empower organisations across New Zealand and globally.
The Cabinet paper points out that New Zealand is currently behind some of its peers in terms of AI adoption, underscoring the need for a robust strategy to increase AI integration, especially within the public sector. By leveraging AI, the government can modernise public services, making them more efficient and user-focused. The successful implementation of tools like Copilot for Microsoft 365 at ACC exemplifies the benefits of adopting such technologies.
The MBIE proposes a "proportionate, risk-based approach" to AI regulation, ensuring that New Zealand keeps pace with global standards and frameworks like those from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This aligns with TEAM Cloud’s commitment to promoting the responsible and ethical use of AI.
A critical component of New Zealand's AI strategy is the concept of sovereign AI, which emphasises the importance of maintaining control over data and technology within the nation. TEAM Cloud’s sovereign cloud offerings are designed to support this initiative by providing secure, localised data storage and processing capabilities. This ensures that sensitive information remains within New Zealand’s borders, complying with local regulations and fostering trust among users.
“TEAM Cloud is passionate about driving digital transformation in New Zealand,” said Ian Rogers, Director at TEAM Cloud New Zealand. “The government’s proactive approach to AI presents exciting opportunities for innovation, enhanced efficiency, and economic growth.”
As New Zealand gears up to elevate its AI capabilities, TEAM Cloud is eager to partner with government bodies, businesses, and communities to maximise the benefits of AI while prioritising ethical practices.
With the launch of our new cloud region on the horizon, organisations in New Zealand will have access to flexible and robust cloud services essential for achieving the government’s AI objectives. This infrastructure will empower users to meet essential data residency, security, and compliance requirements, enabling them to innovate with confidence.
New Zealand boasts a thriving ecosystem of companies harnessing AI to create impactful solutions. For example, Stuff Group Te Puna and Straker are working together to enrich Te Reo Māori news content by blending AI with human translation. LawVu is revolutionising in-house legal practices by integrating AI into its software, while Techion collaborates with Aware and Awanui Labs to enhance agricultural productivity and innovate medical diagnostics.
“We see AI as a transformative force that can help tackle some of society’s most urgent challenges,” Ian Rogers emphasised. “For New Zealand to thrive in a global landscape, this strategic focus on AI adoption is vital. TEAM Cloud is dedicated to supporting this vision with the technology and expertise needed to bring it to life.”
As we look forward, TEAM Cloud New Zealand is enthusiastic about the potential of AI to drive meaningful change in our communities and industries. Together, we can leverage this technology to forge a smarter, more sustainable future for all New Zealanders.
