On Tuesday 23rd July 2024, we celebrated TEAM Cloud's launch with our 'Control Your Data from Cloud To First Sovereign AI' event. TEAM Cloud is New Zealand's first hyperscale sovereign cloud service, provided by TEAM IM, powered by Oracle Cloud. This milestone marks the beginning of a new era in New Zealand’s digital infrastructure, as TEAM Cloud becomes the country’s first hyperscale sovereign cloud service—developed by TEAM IM and powered by the global strength and scalability of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
This moment marks the beginning of a new era for sovereign cloud, including sovereign AI, for New Zealand organisations.
The launch event brought together leaders and innovators from across the technology, business, and public sectors to explore how sovereign cloud and AI can shape the future of data management in Aotearoa. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our keynote speakers, Paul Platen and Chris Chelliah, for their insights and vision. We also thank our distinguished panel members: Garrett Ilg (Executive Vice President, Japan and Asia Pacific – Oracle), Louise Francis (IDC – Asia Pacific), and Ian Rogers (TEAM Cloud / TEAM IM), who shared valuable perspectives on the importance of digital sovereignty, local data control, and trusted AI innovation.
The discussions highlighted the growing need for scalable, secure, and sovereign cloud infrastructure that meets New Zealand’s unique data residency requirements. With the right tools and support, organisations across the country can innovate with confidence—knowing their data remains under local control and aligned with regional compliance standards.
In just nine months, we’ve co-created an advanced cloud ecosystem featuring over 100 OCI services, empowering our partners and clients to build AI-driven solutions with sovereignty at the core. TEAM Cloud is now live, operational, and ready to host mission-critical workloads for both public and private sector organisations.
A big thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event, especially the Tasman Business Circle for helping bring it all together. We’re just getting started!
